New Hardcover, in As New DJ
(Description) Light edgewear to jacket, else a very nice and tight copy. *** (Synopsis) One of the limited edition of 100 copies privately printed letterpress for Charles Wood, this being copy #40. DJ is a clear mylar cover, issued with the book. *** (Publishers Note) While browsing through Hollis, the electronic catalogue of Harvard University's Widener Library, looking for obscure writings on salmon fishing, I came across a reference to the present essay. Curious, I dug out the volume of Murray s Magazine for 1887, read the two part piece, and was charmed. Not only is it written by a woman, it is a lively and engaging fishing story that takes place on a storied salmon river, New Brunswick and Quebec's legendary Restigouche, and the the most famous spot on that river, the Patapedia Pool. I soon found out who Agnes Macdonald was, but there were many other references which puzzled me. I felt the work needed a good introduction to put it into historical context. About that same time Peter Thomas's Lost Land of Moses: The Age of Discovery on New Brunswick's Salmon Rivers came out; I found it a fascinating and compelling book. I approached him on the subject of the Agnes Macdonald essay; at first he demurred, citing other projects and pressures, but after reading the essay he agreed, and he found most of the illustrations as well. I am much indebted to him. I am delighted; I hope you enjoy it as much as I do., AB00305.
