67 Skues, G. E. M.Minor Tactics of the Chalk Stream; New Book
1995 Flyfisher's Classic Library; Limited Edition
As New 8vo Leather-Bound, in Slipcase
(Description) One of a Limited Edition of 750 copies quarter-bound in red leather over red cloth covered boards with gilt title and highlights and silk marker ribbon. Housed in matching cloth covered slipcase. ***(Synopsis) Published in 1910 when the cult of the dry fly had reached a high point, Minor Tactics threw a sensational spanner in the works. Skues was 53, a successful London solicitor and avid fly-fisher with a razor-keen mind. He refused to follow Mr Halford into the straitjacket of ‘Dry Fly Only’ practice. Instead Skues demonstrated that upstream nymph fishing for chalk stream trout was based on an old method, as sporting, as demanding and as interesting (if not more so) than fishing dry. The arguments have been smouldering ever since., AB01109.

71 Skues, G. E. M.Side-Lines, Side-Lights and Reflections; New Book
1996 Flyfisher's Classic Library; Limited Edition
As New 8vo Leather-Bound, in Slipcase
(Description) One of a Limited Edition of 500 copies bound in bound in full burnt-orange leather with gilt title and highlights and silk marker ribbon. Housed in matching cloth covered slipcase. ***(Synopsis) A collection of articles reprinted from The Journal of the Flyfishers' Club, The Field, Fishing Gazette, Salmon & Trout Magazine, the Bulletin of the Anglers' Club of New York, etc. Skues's earlier books were published at his instigation, by A & C Black. Side-lines, by contrast, was put together at the request of another publisher, Seeley Service & Co. Ltd., producers of the Lonsdale Library series. Skues was sceptical of the need for a miscellany of his writings, and this book was always regarded by him as a poor relation to its predecessors. Nonetheless, Sidelines contains some brilliant material, including the famous spoof Carrot Fly controversy, and his most celebrated story, Mr Theodore Castwell in hell, curiously titled Some Letter. Skues was a prodigious writer for angling journals for more than fifty years, His articles collected here make a fascinating monument to his genius., AB01110.
